"Courage" Lion Fob Necklace

$1,665

This one-of-a-kind necklace is composed of:

  • Victorian, solid 10k gold fob from the late 1800s featuring a hand-carved lion and the word "courage" in a carnelian stone. A snake ouroboros encircles the fob setting to the bale. This piece was originally made and sourced in England.
  • This necklace measures a standard 20” on an antique chain with an antique swivel clasp closure. The pendant measures 1" in height.

The History:

The ouroboros is a circular symbol that depicts a snake or dragon devouring its own tail and that is used especially to represent the eternal cycle of destruction and rebirth. Serpent motifs, including the ouroboros, surged during the Victorian era because Queen Victoria liked snake jewelry and, in fact, received a green enamel snake ring from Prince Albert.
