French Rivière Pendant
These one-of-a-kind necklaces are composed of:
-
Art Deco crystal pendants originally from a French Rivière necklace from the 1920s. These pendants are set in a sterling silver with hand-embossed floral and scrollwork details.
-
This necklace measures a standard 18” on 14k gold filled chain with the pendant measuring .5" in width.
THE STORY:
The French origins of the original design literally translates to “River” and has loosely been referred to as a “River of Gems” in the jewelry world. These flashy stones would be set and strung together in single or multiple strands as a necklace.
Many believe the original design dates back to 1811 when Napoleon gifted his wife a Diamond necklace set with 28 old mine cute diamonds (what a necklace, right?!).
But after the discovery of the Kimberly Mine in South Africa in the 1870s, the necklaces grew in popularity and remained so through the 1920s with designs not only set with diamonds but crystal and other gemstones stones.
*Necklaces sold individually.
